2011 AQS Quilt Challenge
A DECADE OF THE PAST: THE 1920s is the theme of our 2011 Challenge Quilt competition. The Roaring Twenties was filled with so many memorable images; Speakeasies, the 'Cotton Club', the beginning of the depression, flappers, inventions, fashion, movies, art deco, innovative architecture, skyscrapers, gangsters, and of course devoted quilters that got block patterns in the newspaper and magazines. Let your imagination 'roar' and be a participant in this challenge. Anything goes!
The top eight quilts of this challenge will be submitted for consideration for acceptance in the 2011 Knoxville AQS show.
As a new twist, this year we will put all entrant names in a hat to be eligible for a drawing for a gift certificate to a quilt shop. Who can't use that? So start brainstorming, create something that is a new adventure for you and let's make this the best challenge ever!
The following rules apply:
- The finished size for this year will be the same as last year at 32” wide x 36” high with a two inch allowable variance. This means that the width can be 30-34” and the height can be 34-38”. We are asking that all quiltsbe in a vertical/portrait format this year so that as a group they will hang well together.
- The quilts will be due one week before the February 2011 guild meeting when they will be shown and the winners will be announced. So get going SOON as we all know the Holiday season will interrupt our sewing time in November and December.
- Entries can be completed by more than one person.
- Quilts will be judged by a person not a member of the Village Quilter’s guild.
- In order for your quilt to be eligible to be entered into the AQS 2010 Ultimate Guild Challenge it must have a hanging sleeve that meets the AQS requirements. Directions for making this type of sleeve are available for download on our website.
- Quilts chosen to be entered into the AQS Ultimate Guild Challenge must be made available for photography and shipping to AQS
Those of you who have participated in making a QOV or if you are interested please join us on the 4th Monday morning of the month. Until you see what is in their eyes and how grateful these Warriors are that we remember, honor and thank them for our freedom, will you truly understand just how much your gift means to each of them.
