Fabric Exchange

The 6 1/2 Club

2010 Coordinator is Sandra Douglas

Three times each year, guild members may sign up to exchange 6 1/2" fabric squares according to a specified theme. Participants use three fabrics and cut 6 1/2" squares from each, assembling them into packets. The number of packets needed will be announced at the guild meeting prior to the due date, depending on the number of members who sign up for the exchange. You will receive your new blocks at the meeting following the due date. This activity is a great way to collect a selection of fabrics you may not have or don’t usually buy. Pieces of this size are great for appliqué, charm quilts and more.

Block Drawings

2010 Coordinator is Joyce Knauff

This is an optional activity offered three times each year. The Guild supplies a packet which includes a piece of focal fabric as well as background. Members then make any block they wish as long as it measures 12 ½ inches unfinished. All the blocks are collected and displayed and then the coordinator arranges the blocks into groups of 9-12 blocks each, depending on the total number turned in. If a member returns a block, then the member’s name goes into the drawing. Names are drawn as winners – usually there are 5 or 6 winners. Now each winner has enough coordinated blocks to complete a quilt top. It is a great way to try out a block you’ve wanted to try! Any member may participate as long as packet supplies last.
